Blog 24: Last Presentation Reflection

(1) Positive Statement

What are you most proud of in your block presentation and/or your senior project? Why?

I am most proud of the fact that I was able to get through it. I was super nervous the past couple of days and I thought I was going to faint. Once I got up there, I just did what I planned to do.

(2) Questions to Consider

a. What assessment would you give yourself on your block presentation? Use the component contract to defend that assessment.

I would give myself at least a P +.

b. What assessment would you give yourself on your overall senior project? Use the component contract to defend that assessment.

I would give myself a P for that because I tried hard to make my topic interesting even though it was really bland. I wanted people to enjoy my presentation.

(3) What worked for you in your senior project?

My humor and my exploration of other medical fields in order to further study mine definitely did work in my favor when it came to my senior project.

(4) (What didn't work) If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your senior project?

What didn't work was the fact that I was not able to always listen in to conversations in the examination room because it violated the law.

(5) Finding Value

How has the senior project been helpful to you in your future endeavors? Be specific and use examples.

The senior project has allowed me to overcome my fear of public speaking. It has provided me with new insight as to what hard work really contains. I feel I'm more prepared for what the world will through at me in the future than I was before.

Blog 18: Answer 2

1. What is your EQ?
How can an optometrist best reduce patient non-compliance in the field?

2. What is your first answer? (In complete thesis statement format)

Educating patients on the dangers of neglecting their eye health with greatly reduce patient non-compliance in the field.

3. What is your second answer? (In complete thesis statement format)

Improving communication skills between the Optometrist and his Opticians will therefore also improve communication with the patients reducing patient non-compliance in the field.

4. List three reasons your answer is true with a real-world application for each.

A) The patient feels more comfortable when the office staff works like a family.
B) The patient will feel motivated to involve the doctor in their lives.
C) The Optometrist and Opticians will be able to work together improving the experience of eye care.

5. What printed source best supports your answer?

  • Cunningham, Derek N. "What Is ‘Integrated Eye Care?’." Review of Optometry® What Is 'Integrated Eye Care?' Review of Optometry, 15 Mar. 2012. Web. 05 Feb. 2016. .

6. What other source supports your answer?

  • "Getting Kids Ready for Their Eye Doctor Visit." How to Prepare Young Kids for Their Eye Doctor Visit. VSP Direct. Web. 10 Feb. 2016.
  • Liu, Lei and Mark Swanson. “Improving patient outcomes: role of the primary care optometrist in the early diagnosis and management of age-related macular degeneration.” Dovepress. ResearchGate, 18 February 2013. Web. 10 December 2015.

7. Tie this together with a concluding thought.

I plan to get more research supporting my second answer to make it as solid as my first answer that way I'm not a stuttering idiot in front of all of you.

On Friday, 2/26 for Advisory, you will be presenting what you have from this blog. The presentation is more like a share-out and should not last longer than 2 minutes. You don't need a visual, and you should not read what you have written.

Lesson 2 Reflection

1.What are you most proud of in your Lesson 2 Presentation and why?

I am most proud of my activity and the fact that I got over my fear of public speaking. Everyone seemed to enjoy my activity and enjoy my presentation. It was chaos yet it was still fun to play the game during my activity.

2.
 a. What assessment would you give yourself on your Lesson 2 Presentation (self-assessment)?

I would give myself a AE or at least a P because I feel I did great, it was way better than what I did before. I hit all my points, I provided in depth explanations and was able to make people laugh.

b. Explain why you deserve that grade using evidence from the Lesson 2 component contract.

I made time on my research talking time and I also hit all the points needed, I referenced my mentor more than once and explained how my answer was used in real life scenarios more than 3 times.

3. What worked for you in your Lesson 2?

I think what worked for me in terms of presenting was just being myself, I tend to be a very humorous person and allowing myself to joke around a bit made me feel a bit more comfortable and confident. I have also been working on my presentation for a couple of weeks so just preparing before hand definitely helped. I also recited my presentation to other people over 5 times.

4. What didn't work? If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your Lesson 2?

I may need to adjust the activity a bit and I need to learn how to speak a bit slower. I feel like I rushed myself. I also feel I should write more detailed note-cards although I didn't read off my note-cards as much as I thought I would.

5. What do you think your answer #2 is going to be?

I have already planned out all of my answers and my second answer is going to be about communication between the doctor and his opticians and so on and so forth. Optometry doesn't just work by itself it also includes working with the other branches of the eye medical field so having good communication among the staff is as important as anything else.

Blog 11 - Lesson 1 Reflection

1. What are you most proud of in your lesson, and why?

I am proud of the fact that I was able to make it through my lesson and pass the time. I was also proud of how much research I actually put into that small amount of time that we had.

2. What assessment would you give yourself on your lesson? Explain why you earned that grade using evidence from the component contract.

I would of probably given myself an AP honestly. I won't even lie. I could not move from behind the podium because I was terrified and without my script my mind would of went blank even if I did memorize everything.

3. If you could go back, what would you change about your lesson? How can you use that knowledge to give a better Lesson 2?

I would most likely be more comfortably now that I know what to expect and I would have said all off the top of my head. I think I could have done a better hook activity, but next time I will.
